RA Gallery presents

YURII HIMITCH

From South to North. From Crimea to Kyiv

28.06-14.07.2026

Opening: 28.06 at 17:00

This exhibition is an attempt to look behind the scenes of Yu. Khimich's studio, to breathe the air of his creative spirit, to travel - not only from the south of Ukraine - Crimea - to Kyiv, but also to go through the seasons, off-seasons and periods of his life - from early youth with delicate watercolors, through the dynamism and decorativeness of the 60s - to the restrained realism of the 80s.

That is, the era of the flowering of the Master's creative forces and potential, with the exception of the 90s, when Yuriy Khimich mostly traveled less and worked mainly in Kyiv.

Every artist must have a method, a system that allows him to keep himself in the creative process for years or decades. Therefore, the creative process is not only a studio, an easel and paints. Rhythm is created by any activity to which the artist has a penchant. For some, by the way, this is alcohol.
Yuri Khymich – did not drink alcohol. All his life he taught students of the Faculty of Architecture: first at the KIB, then at the Good Institute. He walked from house to house. He ran an art studio in the Architect's House. He walked from studio to studio. This happened in the fall, winter and spring. In the summer – he traveled: about 3, 4 trips a year, during which he worked especially intensively, so most of the works were created during the trips.

Once a year - definitely the sea, Crimea. Sudak, Feodosia, Balaklava, Sevastopol, Kerch, Bkhchysarai, the cave cities of Crimea.

Once a year – wintering in Kyiv. At this time – he painted still lifes and landscapes from the window of the botanical garden. In the fall – the school year. Usually, since it gets dark early, there was enough time: to go to work, to spend a couple of hours in the bot. garden.

The year created a cycle. From cycle to cycle, the formats of the works, style, materials, and execution techniques changed. Therefore, although the works are sometimes not dated, we approximately, with an accuracy of 2, 3 years, determine the date of their creation.
